We are a dedicated group of
your peers in the mental
health community of the
West Island. We all have
experienced mental health
concerns, so we know very
well what you have gone
through, or are still
dealing with.
The West Island
Citizens Group was formed in
March 2017 and we were created
as a result of the local
mental health community's
desire to have the citizens'
voices be heard and have our
peers become involved in
their community. From the
initiative of the Table de
Concertation en Santé Mentale
de l’Ouest-de-l’Île (which
incorporates all the local
mental health organizations
and interested organizations
on the west island), the
needed resources were
invested in order to create
a permanent regional citizens
committee with clients from
their area as the only members.
This has become the West Island
Citizens Group!
Some of our involvements
include: being sitting members
of the Table de Concertation en
Santé Mentale de l’Ouest-de-
l’Île, being on the board of
directors of various mental
health organizations &
associations, having a member
on the CIUSSS primauté de la
personne sub-committees, as
well as being involved in
various committees (like with
the LGH and TQSOI) and
volunteering in the community.
We have also participated in
documentaries, done interviews
on television (CTV News
Montreal, CBC Our Montreal,
Global) and radio (CJAD, CBC
Montreal) and newspapers
(Cité Nouvelles), as well as
having provided testimonials
and letters of support to our
partner organizations.
Our Mission ▽
Our mission is to gather,
consult, and represent people
living with, or having lived,
a mental health issue. We will
promote, defend and advocate
for their interests and
concerns. We are about giving
our peers a collective voice
to speak publicly for the
important cause of
mental health!
